Manus, by Verbatim Theatre Group and Directed by Nazanin Sahamizadeh is a piece of agit-prop documentary theatre using interviews with Iranian asylum seekers on Manus and Nauru. I worked on the presentation fo the work in Adelaide Festival (2019) with the all-Iranian company performing in Persian, for the first time outside Tehran. This was an important presentation, for Australian audiences, presenting a confronting inside look at Australia’s offshore detention regime,
For Manus I worked with video, often shot on mobile phones clandestinely inside Manus and Naru, projected into the space and onto the performers bodies.
