Dying together, a physically performed thought experiment explores the fragile connections between strangers facing a collective death scenario—beginning with the metaphor of a crashing airplane and expanding into themes of ecological collapse and ideological demise. Presented across Europe, Dying Together invites audiences to participate in choreographed, reflective arrangements that explore empathy, proximity, and belonging.
For Dying together, to facilitate the rapid archiving of audience-written responses, I designed and built a laser-cut box housing a Canon DSLR and custom lighting system where the audiences’ hand-written cards could be photographed, ensuring uniform, high-quality image capture in varied environments. This was paired with a bespoke software interface that provided a live preview, automated capture, and immediate upload of responses to an online archive—making participant reflections publicly viewable within seconds. The system prioritised reliability and minimal distraction, enabling seamless integration into the performance’s contemplative atmosphere.
