Crosstalk is an open lab exploring methods of collaboration between bodies and technology. Initiated in Tehran in 2015, I co-founded the project alongside choreographer Setareh Fatehi Irani and the design collective Codon. The lab invited artists, performers, technologists, sound designers, and creative coders to engage in interdisciplinary experiments aimed at blurring the boundaries between the human and the digital.
Crosstalk was structured as an intensive, time-based collaboration, offering participants access to a studio equipped with motion tracking systems, Kinect sensors, sound equipment, projectors, and VR hardware like the Oculus Rift. The open-call format encouraged emerging makers to join the lab with or without fixed ideas, focusing instead on process and collaboration.
Workshops, guest talks, and group discussions complemented the open studio sessions, which culminated in public sharings of the work in progress. Many of the tools and techniques developed during the lab laid the groundwork for future research and collaborations, including real-time body tracking and sonic interpretation systems.
Crosstalk was also featured as part of a Re-Shape Tehran event and maintained a social media presence to document its progress and promote open engagement.
